Chapter 17
Kalina - Unexpected enemies
"I can't believe you snatched her right from under their noses. Those guys are real fucking morons." A familiar male's voice is the first thing I hear when I wake up.
"Just shut up and do the spell. I want to be young again." Hippy Granny's voice sounds excited.
I open my eyes and start laughing. I can't help it. The sight before me is too funny; Old Hippy Granny is standing in the middle of a pentagram, not a stitch on. Her saggy boobs hanging down near her belly button and her thighs look like someone tried to grate them with a cheese grater. She's jiggling and dancing from point to point within the star.
"What the hell are you laughing about?" The voice is coming from behind me. I turn slightly and the laughter comes again.
"Seriously? The car salesman, the real estate agent, and a Hippy Granny? That's like the punchline to the world's worst joke." I laugh again as I look around me. I'm chained to the rafters in the ceiling, naked and cold, but this is just too funny.
"I think you hit her too hard, she's lost the plot." Car sales guy says.
The pentagram in the middle of the lounge room floor is done up with sidewalk chalk. The kind my mother used to give to me when I was five. The windows are covered with black bed sheets and the candles around the room look like they were bought at a convenience store. They are the long thin ones you use for blackouts when you can't find a torch.
The chalice is the funniest part though, it's one of those pewter ornaments with the dragon's claw holding the glass tumbler. "Did you guys raid the local dollar shop?" I ask with a smirk.
"Oh, laugh all you want but magic doesn't come from the objects, it comes from the words." Hippy Granny says, making me laugh even harder.
"Let me guess, you found an old spell book and have been trying to relive your glory days by killing helpless young people, trying to bring forth the fountain of youth. Am I right?" All I get in response is a glare from Hippy Granny. She goes back to setting up her spell.
I roll my eyes to the ceiling and notice the ring they used to loop the chain through is one of those ones you hang boxing bags from. I grab the chains and pull them tight, cringing as the chain clinks. I twirl around in a circle; I must look pretty weird doing dance like spins while chained to the ceiling. Twisting the chains on themselves allows the ring to be caught in the chains. Hippy Granny and her minions are too busy trying to read the spell to see what I'm doing. I twirl around again and the hook starts to unscrew. I smile and repeat the move.
The chain crashes down from the ceiling, I lurch to the side just as the chain and loop land right where I'd been standing.
